Happy Holidays, All!

Happy Holidays Everyone!
The last week before the holidays. For me, this week will be finishing up my class and doing some holiday baking.
Might not get to much crafting, but if something comes to me, I will make sure to post it.
I just want to tell everyone to Enjoy The Season! Now is the time to give extra hugs and kisses to those loved ones and do something special to create those new memories.
May God Bless you this holiday and always,

Much Love,
Brie

Words with Friends

Hello all!
In the spirit of the most addicting app on my Ipad! Words with Friends Ornaments.
Super cute!
I found an old scrabble game and hot glued all the letters together
For these, I added a yellow ribbon and put an ornament hook on the back.
Spray painted with some glitter spray paint and they were complete!

I have more plans for words after the holidays.  Frames, etc.... Love!
If you are interested in a words ornament, let me know. I can create almost anything using the scrabble tiles.  Cost is $4 which includes shipping.

Destiny

Hello all!
A little bit more about me.  I have an obsession with Forrest Gump. Well actually my husband and I do.  It's a funny story that stems from our first date.  We even had the theme song as our processional music at our wedding... Well, a few months back, I was at Kirklands and saw a beautiful painting that I just had to have for our bedroom.

Well, I got home and come to find out! It's the same tree that Forrest taught Jenny how to dangle on.  Ok, so I'm rambling now...
So the other day, I decided to do a painting.... One thing led to another and I now have a feather to go with my tree.

I named this one destiny:  "I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both. Maybe both is happening at the same time."- Forrest Gump

Now, hopefully the wax museum in San Antonio will have Forrest Gump back from repair soon so my husband and I can take a picture with him and well, my Forrest Gump theme room will be complete :)

Fun way to show off those Christmas Cards

I love Christmas! So much fun to decorate! And its a perfect time to pull out old things and make them new!
I was trying to find a way to display all the Christmas cards we have received!
This is what I came up with.
I took an old picture frame that had the glass broken in it.
Added some mesh from Lowes.
To attach it I stapled it to hold it in place then ran a strip of hot glue over it.
Spray painted it gold and added a bow! (For the record, I now found out that I can not tie bows either)
and spray painted some little clothes pins I found at Hobby Lobby!
Ta-Da! Christmas card holder! Easy peasy! :)
Happy Holidays, all!

Just another homework avoider

On Sunday, I was suppose to be writing a paper on the influence of citizens in the public policy decision making process. *YAWN*
I had boards sitting beside my desk and I kept eying them.  I had to take a break.
3 fence boards nailed on a small board and ta-da! I just painted some quick flowers and went back to my homework.
The next day, I sprayed Krylon clear poly on it and put a picture frame hanger on the back.
Art is way more fun than public policy :)

A special painting for a special girl

Ms. Lilly turned 1 a couple months ago! :)  She inspired me to reach outside of my comfort zone and paint on a canvas.  I love cherry blossom trees so I thought this would be perfect for her room.

The background came out a little bit too bright blue but I adjusted to it.
I just freehanded some tree branches using brown acrylic paint.

Added some cute pink blossoms.
I was looking at this, thinking it needed something more.

So I made some fabric flowers.  For all you out there, I CAN NOT SEW.  But I tried.
These are so simple to make.  I followed a blog I found at: http://www.simplyvintagegirl.com/blog/index.php/2010/05/29/tutorial-how-to-make-lovely-fabric-flowers/
The only thing I did different, was didn't make them so large.
*Also, do not use a candle on tulle*

When I made a few different sized ones, I glued them on to the painting giving it a 3D look.

And this was the final! I was pretty impressed with it.  Hopefully Ms. Lilly and her momma loved it too.

Custom Flag

This painting I did was very special to me.  My husband is a member of the 1-7 Cavalry in the United States Army.  I am so proud of him.  Well, I made this flag out of 1x2 trim boards I found at Lowe's.  (You will notice Lowes a lot in my posts).  I just nailed them all to a 1x2 board and began to paint.

The custom sabers I painted were to represent 1-7.  this painting is a 1 of a kind that was given to the Commander of Jasons unit.
I will create pieces like this for you but will not be the same.  If interested, contact me.  Price is $30 for a 18" x 24" painting.

Wood Fence Art

A while back, I saw a blog post where someone had created an art piece out of old pallets.  Well, one Saturday I went on a mission to find pallets.  Being in a city, I could not find any.  And the only stores that would give them to me gave me pallets that were painted already.  Not wanting to strip paint off of pallets, I went to my favorite store ever. LOWES!
I found privacy fence boards that would do the trick.
For about $4 for wood, and $8 in paint and nails, I was able to create an art piece to go in my living room.

I cut the boards to be 36" wide using a circular saw.
Then I nailed the 4 boards to two of the same boards on the back.
And painted the whole thing with a cream base paint

Then I just painted a fall theme.
After it was dried, I sprayed it with a Krylon Clear Gloss to protect it.
Two screws and a piece of wire made it hangable.
Ta-Da! Love!

Welcome

Howdy! :)

Welcome to my blog.  A little bit about me:
I'm a full time student, getting my master's degree in Public Administration (yawn!)
and I craft.  Pretty much anything.
No kiddos, but I love doing kid crafts.
I attempt to paint.  I enjoy painting on wood, but will throw paint at a canvas on occasion.

I've had people ask me how I did some of the stuff I've made, so I will try to show each piece with some how to's.  So have fun, and enjoy! If you want to give me some advice, feel free!
